Set up your Ledger device at your own pace. This independent guide walks through the essentials—without ever asking for your recovery phrase.
Follow the steps below in order. Your device will guide you through the on-device parts of setup.
Buy from Ledger.com or an authorized reseller. A genuine new device should arrive with its setup state intact—never use a recovery phrase supplied in the box.
Ledger devices are designed to generate your recovery phrase on the device itself. If a phrase is printed, pre-filled, or sent to you, do not use it.
Download Ledger Wallet (formerly Ledger Live) only from an official Ledger source. Avoid sponsored search results and unsolicited download links.
Use Ledger’s official download page to find the desktop or mobile app for your device. Keep your operating system and app up to date.
Find Ledger Wallet on Ledger.com ↗Connect your device and follow its screen to create a new wallet. Choose a PIN directly on the device and confirm each prompt there.
Only continue if you are setting up a new wallet. If you are restoring an existing one, use official Ledger instructions and enter recovery words only on the trusted hardware device itself.
Write down the words shown on your device and store them offline somewhere private. This phrase is the master backup to your wallet.
Never photograph, type, email, or share your recovery phrase. Ledger Support will never ask you for it. Anyone who gets the words can take your assets.
No legitimate support agent, website, app, or person needs your 24 words. Keep the phrase offline and only enter it directly on your trusted hardware device when setting up or restoring.
For product-specific guidance, troubleshooting, or the latest app downloads, use Ledger’s official website and support center.
